DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR OF PERSONALITY: FEATURES OF EMOTIONAL STATE SELF-REGULATION

The article presents the results of theoretical and empirical analysis of the psychological determinants of an individual’s delinquent behavior. The relevance of the study is driven by increasing social instability, stress factors, and trends toward the criminalization of society, which necessitates the search for effective mechanisms for resocialization and prevention of illegal actions. Delinquency is considered not only as a social deviation but as a consequence of disruptions in the system of emotional and volitional self-regulation. Particular attention is paid to the volitional control of emotional reactions as a core component that ensures an individual’s ability to restrain impulsive states and consider the consequences of their actions. The level of delinquent tendencies and the characteristics of emotional self-control were empirically investigated and analyzed across two age groups (under 35 years and 36 years and older). Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U-test showed an absence of statistically significant differences between the age groups, suggesting that the level of selfregulation and associated manifestations of delinquent behavior do not depend on the age of the probationers. The study established a statistically significant inverse correlation of moderate strength between the volitional control of emotional reactions and the propensity for delinquent behavior. It is proven that as the level of volitional control increases, the intensity of delinquent tendencies decreases. A high level of control over emotional reactions is associated with a lower propensity to violate social norms, which can be explained by better self-regulation and the ability to assess the consequences of one’s own behavior. Conversely, a low level of volitional control is associated with a greater predisposition to delinquent behavior due to difficulties in emotional regulation and self-control in stressful situations. The findings highlight the necessity of developing self-determination skills and emotional resilience within correctional programs for individuals prone to delinquent behavior.
