Abstract

One of the biggest problems of a modern young family in Ukraine is its economic instability, social insecurity and increased psychological vulnerability, which gives rise to its disorganization, internal destructive processes, and conflicts. Uncertainty of the future, the appearance of contradictions, instability of earnings, unpreparedness for family life and survival in new conditions affects intra-family processes, the nature of relationships between family members and its relationships with the environment. At the stage of a young family, mutual adjustment of spouses takes place, the search for a type of relationship that would satisfy both, a system of family values is created. Counseling assistance to young families has to be provided in connection with mistrust of their partner and the problem of distribution and fulfillment of household duties. We consider the leveling of moral values, general depression, lack of orientation towards the progress of relationships and attitudes towards dissatisfaction of one’s needs in family life to be the cause of disharmony in relationships. However, for both men and women, the domestic sphere is problematic, which indicates that young people equally do not have sufficient skills to organize a common life. In most cases, counseling is not effective. The main reason is the insufficiency of the practical side of the sessions, the theorization of the psychologist’s work with the family, the lack of psychoeducation for a specific family group, and the insufficiency of practical exercises, namely: questionnaires, projective methods, modeling situations, mediation techniques. Young families need short-term methods that unite young families in the desire to visit a psychologist and from the first meeting provide an illustration of the effectiveness of such cooperation. Young couples seek to understand the partner’s mental state, search for the reasons for their defensive reactions, and expect professional mediation from a psychologist in conflict situations.
